How to do it

Set the Smith machine bar across your upper back, not your neck, and unlock it. With feet under your hips and knees slightly bent, push your hips back while keeping your spine neutral. Stop when you cannot hinge farther without rounding, then extend your hips to stand.

Form cues

  • Keep the bar on your upper back.
  • Hinge without rounding your back.
