How to do it

Stand with feet hip-width apart and hands behind the head or crossed on the chest. With a soft bend in the knees, push the hips straight back and let the torso hinge forward with a long, flat spine until you feel a clear stretch in the hamstrings — usually just above parallel. Drive the hips forward to stand tall again. The knees stay in place; all the travel comes from the hips.

Form cues

  • Push the hips back, not the chest down
  • Keep the spine long and the knees softly bent
