How to do it

From standing, step back and sink straight down until the back knee lightly touches or nearly touches the floor, keeping most of the weight on the front foot. Drive through the front heel to return to standing. Keep the torso upright and the front shin close to vertical; this variation is generally kinder on the knees than a forward lunge.
