How to do it

Place the hands on a sturdy elevated surface — a table edge, counter or sofa arm — and walk the feet back into a pike with the hips high, so the torso points down the line of the arms. Bend the elbows to lower the top of the head toward the surface between the hands, then press back to straight arms. The higher the surface, the easier the rep; lower it over time to work toward the floor pike push-up.

Form cues

  • Hips high — press along the line of the torso
  • Head travels toward the hands, not the floor
