How to do it

Set the feet on a sturdy chair or step and the hands on the floor, then pike the hips as high as possible so the torso approaches vertical. Bend the elbows to lower the top of the head toward the floor between the hands, and press back to straight arms. The higher the feet and the more vertical the torso, the closer this comes to a handstand push-up — raise the surface gradually.

Form cues

  • Stack the hips over the shoulders as much as you can
  • Lower the head between the hands under full control
