How to do it

Kneel upright with the knees hip-width apart and the glutes squeezed so the hips stay straight — not hinged. Lean backwards slowly, resisting with the quads, going only as far as you can return from under control. Come back up without breaking at the hips. Start with a small range; this loads the quads at long lengths and is easy to overdo on the first session.

Form cues

  • Squeeze the glutes to keep the hips straight
  • Only lean as far as you can control
