How to do it

Hold a dumbbell overhead with both hands, elbows pointing forward rather than flaring out. Lower the weight behind the head into a deep triceps stretch, then extend back to lockout. Move slowly into the stretch and keep the ribs down — arching the lower back to get more range is the most common mistake here.

Form cues

  • Deep stretch behind the head
  • Elbows point forward, not out
