How to do it

Place the hands on a bench or bar slightly wider than the shoulders and walk the feet back so the body forms one straight line. Lower the chest to the surface with the elbows at about 45 degrees, then press back up. The higher the hands, the easier the rep — lower the surface as you get stronger until you can do it on the floor. Keep the hips from sagging; if the line breaks, raise the hands rather than pushing through it.

Form cues

  • The higher the hands, the easier the rep
  • Body is one straight line, ribs down
