How to do it

Lean your back flat against a wall and walk the feet out, then slide down until the thighs are parallel to the floor and the knees sit directly over the ankles. Press the lower back into the wall, rest the hands on the thighs or at your sides, and hold while breathing steadily. If the knees ache, slide up a little; if it is too easy, hold longer rather than deeper.

Form cues

  • Thighs parallel to the floor, knees over the ankles
  • Press the whole back flat into the wall
