How to do it

Stand with your back against a wall and the heels a step or two out in front of you, feet flat. Keeping the heels planted, pull the toes up toward the shins as far as you can, then lower slowly. Walk the feet further from the wall to make it harder. It is the direct antagonist to your calf work, and the shins get sore fast — start with short sets and add volume gradually.

Form cues

  • Heels planted, back against a wall
  • Slow on the way down
